Just Savor the Moment

Vanilla ice cream

ribboned with caramel

drips down the rim

of a red paper cup that says

"Cold Stone Creamery"

in bubble letters

Spoonfuls

of rich creaminess

mixed with salty swirls

dissolve on the tongue

creating palatal bliss

that makes one forget

the stone-cold bench

in a barren strip mall

Maybe We're Nemeses

You are the sun

brighter than me by far

your smile exposing

gleaming teeth

I am the moon

behind a veil of gray clouds

brooding and unsmiling

You wear the mask

of one who watches romances

and believes in happy endings

I have a face

painted black

the color of tragedy

We are yin-yang

good and evil

divided only

by a thin line
